Lightning Reviews is operated by William Langdon, doing business as Lightning Reviews, in Ontario, Canada ("Lightning Reviews", "we", "us"). We help local businesses collect and manage Google reviews using NFC review cards and automated review-request messages.
We operate online only and do not have a public mailing address.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
From website visitors and prospective clients
- Name, email address, phone number, business name, and any message you send us through a contact form, text, email, or booking calendar.
- Basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited.
From business clients
- Business and billing contact details.
- Payment information, which is handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not see or store your full card number.
- Your Google Business Profile link and other information needed to set up your service.
From our clients' customers
- When a business client uses our service, they may give us customer names, phone numbers, and email addresses so we can send review requests on their behalf. In this case, the business is responsible for having the right to contact those people, and we act as its service provider.
- If you tap an NFC review card, you are taken to the business's Google review page. We may record that a tap happened, but we do not receive the content of any review you write.
3. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
- To provide, set up, and support our review services.
- To send review-request text messages and emails for our clients, and to send reminders when the client has enabled them.
- To respond to your questions and book meetings.
- To bill clients and keep records.
- To improve our website and services, and to keep them secure.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. TEXT MESSAGES AND EMAIL (SMS AND CASL)
- We send messages only where there is consent, express or implied as permitted by CASL. Every message identifies the sender and includes a way to opt out.
- You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP. You can unsubscribe from emails using the link in each email, or by contacting us.
- Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.
- Mobile information and SMS opt-in data are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
5. OUR APPROACH TO REVIEWS
We do not edit, filter, pay for, or offer rewards in exchange for reviews. Review requests ask for an honest review, and each person decides for themselves whether to leave one and what to say. Reviews you post on Google are public and are governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy.
6. WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH
We share information only with service providers that help us run the business, and only as needed to provide the service. These include:
- Our customer-relationship and messaging platform (GoHighLevel / LeadConnector), which sends text messages and emails and stores contact records.
- SMS and telephone carriers that deliver messages.
- Stripe, for payment processing.
- Website hosting, domain, and analytics providers.
- Google, when you use a review link.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, our clients, or the public. If the business is sold or reorganized, information may be transferred to the new owner under the same protections.
7. WHERE INFORMATION IS STORED
Our providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, and other authorities there under that country's laws.
8. COOKIES AND ANALYTICS
Our website may use cookies and similar tools to make the site work, remember preferences, and understand how visitors use it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may not work as well. Analytics tools used: [LIST YOUR TOOLS, OR "None at this time"].
9. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as the law requires. When a client's service ends, we delete or return the customer contact lists they gave us within a reasonable time after a request, unless we must keep them for legal reasons.
10. SECURITY
We use reasonable safeguards, including access controls and reputable service providers, to protect personal information. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
You may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you and how it is used.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your information or stop contacting you, subject to legal limits.
- Withdraw your consent to messages or to certain uses of your information.

If your information was given to us by a business that uses our service, you can also ask that business directly.
12. CHILDREN
Our website and services are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a significant change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
